Shinola is on a mission to build a modern, American brand. To shape culture, create community, and invest in an American workforce that will deliver high-quality goods. Founded in 2011, the firm released is first watch in March 2013, quickly becoming a force in American-made design, Assembling 50,000 timepieces that year. The goal for the next three years is the production of 500,000 watches annually, which would add 600 jobs to the Detroit-based team.



The company’s 30,000-square-foot state-of-the-art watch factory is housed inside the historic Argonaut Building, along with the College for Creative Studies. Its workforce, as well as the majority of its distribution, is centered in Motor City. Inside the 11-story brick building that used to house the General Motors (GM) design studio, the company’s technicians assemble men’s and women’s watches by hand, piece by piece. The entire team was trained by experts from Switzerland’s second-oldest quartz movement company, Ronda AG, one of the only independent movement manufacturers remaining in Switzerland.

There are half-a-dozen models of Shinola watch, including The Birdy, The Brakeman, The Gomelsky, The Lattice, The Runwell, and The Runwell Sport Chrono. The retro-inspired, finely crafted styles are built to last; Shinola is so focused on quality they offer a lifetime guarantee! This covers defects of all components, excluding the battery, strap and buckle. Shinola will repair the watch or replace it free-of-charge with the same watch or a timepiece of equal value and similar style.

Shinola watches are well-designed, keep excellent time and exhibit a heft. They’re comfortable, durable and good-looking. Dials are available in 10 different colors, with bands in seven colors crafted of leather, mesh and metal. The bands, in fact, go through 11 different departments during quality control!

The watches are packaged in hickory American wood, with no two boxes alike. An authenticity card, leather travel pouch, owner’s manual and warranty are included.

Each and every skilled, focused and talented artisan working at the upscale watch factory are intent on bringing manufacturing back to Detroit, one watch at a time.

The Shinola brand, a solid watch with an American pedigree, is sold online, at flagship stores in Washington, D.C.; Chicago; New York; Minneapolis and Detroit, at fashion and jewelry retailers; and department stores nationwide.
