About Accutron Watches

Accutron first launched in 1960, emerging in the market as the first technically successful electronic watch. They were widely known for its unprecedented accuracy, quickly becoming their signature and were used for war pilots and even the Apollo lunar mission. 2020 marks Accutron's 60th Anniversary, relaunching many features of the original Accutron but with new technology like its electrostatic motor and turbine. This new movement features three turbines, one being an electrostatic motor, which runs continuously to power the hands. The two smaller turbines are electrostatic generators which gather energy by the natural movement of the wearer's arm. This energy is then transferred to the capacitor seen through the skeleton dial to power the watch.

Accutron watches are far unlike other watches, as many watch connoisseurs and collectors know. Part of what makes Accutron so interesting is it's see-through dial of the Spaceview, showcasing the electrostatic motor that makes these watches some of the most precise and accurate watches on Earth. It's not just a watch, but a collector's item and conversation piece. The name Accutron itself stands for "Accuracy through Electronic", paying homage to it's roots.

The original Accutron watch was first made by Bulova in 1960, widely known as being the most precise and accurate timepiece on Earth. They ended up stopping production in 1977, but left their legacy strong often being used as timing instruments for the American government on military satellites in space. NASA even installed an Accutron in the Apollo spacecraft. Accutron provided such precise accuracy that it was also the first timepiece to be certified for use by railroads in the U.S in 1962. It's precision allowed it to be a dependable timekeeper to avoid collisions from any late arrivals or departures on the railroad. The Accutron watch also was featured in the iconic presidential Air Force One plane in the 1960's, loved by many presidents at the time like Lyndon B. Johnson. The gold toned, mid century styled Accutron "521" was worn and adored by the musical sensation Elvis Presley.

The Spaceview 314 is the return of the tuning fork and stands as a modern evolution of Accutron’s most legendary design. Its open-worked dial reveals the mesmerizing hand-assembled tuning fork movement beneath, offering a visual and auditory experience that sets it apart. With its re-engineered layout, repositioned 4 o’clock crown, and upgraded finishing, the 314 bridges the bold innovation of the past with the refined expectations of today’s collector. Powered by an electronic circuit and vibrating at 360 Hz, this innovation delivered unmatched accuracy and a smooth sweeping seconds hand, along with its signature F-sharp hum.
