The hexagonal step cut is a geometry problem solved differently than a brilliant. Instead of chasing sparkle through dozens of small facets, it uses long parallel steps that read as flashes of light and shadow, closer to an emerald cut than a round. The six-sided outline gives it a cleaner architectural edge.

This stone weighs 3.01 carats and measures 12.79 x 7.40 x 4.00 mm, an elongated hexagon that covers more finger than a round of the same weight. Polish and symmetry both grade Excellent, which matters more in a step cut than almost any other shape, since open facets show every imperfection in the finish. Fluorescence is none. GIA color grade is L, and clarity is SI2, with clouds and pinpoints among the noted characteristics. The report number is laser inscribed on the girdle.

L color in a step cut set in yellow gold behaves differently than it does in a white metal. The warm tone of the mounting absorbs the faint color rather than contrasting against it, and the stone reads as candlelit rather than tinted. It is a deliberate pairing, not a compromise.

The setting carries 1.27 carats of accent diamonds, G color and VS clarity, outlining the center stone and continuing down a crossover shank so the two rows of pavé meet and split across the top of the finger. Total diamond weight is 4.28 carats.
